Moko's homeMarch 16 one year laterwow its been a year since my last post. mike once asked me why bother blogging even- who reads it anyway. i have 'no glue' - as my ceo would put it in his german accent :) its very cute really.
i suppose unless you have a kid, or a super existing job or life, somehow it makes blogging worthwhile. does this mean that the past year hasn't been all too exciting for me? au contraire mon ami. married life has been fantastic and our home is just super cosy. i love being home - checking out the oven, and eventually even learning a few recipes while my sis was in KL. baking is quite therapeutic, but the most satisfying so far, is cooking the ultimate hainanese chicken rice for mike :)
some say i'm extremely domesticated now while some say i lead a rather exciting life, being the product person at merc benz. its all a package, and really work will always be just work. all the social events can get rather pretentious at the end of the day, and appearing on tatler ain't that glamorous after all when u're just riding on your company's name :) so its actually quite lame.
i juggle between work and my married life quite well and mike's busy with his new singapore sales office. all seems to be in place now and we just need to get cracking on having little mikey or szes around the house. we shall see...
March 06 The engagement story November 25th, 2006You know what they say, time passes real quick when you're having fun.
It was exactly a year since the day we met when Michael proposed. As it was meant to be a surprise, naturally, the official reason for heading out for a nice dinner would be to celebrate our 1st year anniversary (how romantic).
Some few weeks before the dinner, he requested that I get myself a nice evening gown to prepare for functions we'll need to attend in the later parts of the year. And yes, I was a little suspicious already when he made that request. Off I went anyways.
So, came the anniversary dinner, he requested that I dress up for the occasion and (even more suspicious) so I did. :)
The night itself :
In my SLK, (which I coincidentally happened to get for the weekend spin), he arrived looking smashingly handsome in a vest and tie. Very suspicious!!! But at this point, destination was still kept a secret and I recall making a comment that we had better not end up in Restaurant Tai Thong or something along those lines after all the dressy dressy efforts. You'd have a very unhappy lady for the night.
We drove up to Carcosa Seri Negara - received a warm welcome by the hotel manager and his team. As they greeted Michael by name, suspicions grew stronger :) We were escorted to a private suite on the 2nd floor and to my amazement, a saxophonist was playing away welcoming us.
With the perfect ambience, and air filled with the scent of white roses (which the suite was pretty much entirely filled with), it was one of those few moments where you actually feel as if the moment just seems too surreal. Someone has been busy getting all this set up.
Then, we started with dinner - french. Mais Oui. C'est la Carcosa, non? Bon Appetit. The mushroom soup was simply to die for. As we had this craving urge to just pick up our bowls and slurp away (like you always do in chinese restaurants, or well, ok, maybe its just us), we had to restrain ourselves and remain composed. It was after all , la Carcosa - francais francis .. oui oui. At one point, we even giggled and asked one another "why are we speaking whispering?" hehe
As they were to about serve the main course, he got on his knees, and the waiters paraded in with the serving plates. The serving lid was removed and voila, the 'ring'. The violist was now in the room, stringing away I cannot remember for the life of me, some jazz song. Or was it the Wedding March?? With quite a few actions taking place simultaneously, it seemed all too fuzzy, too quick, but the same time, I was rather mesmerized by the beauty of the ring. I said "yes" of course :)
Now, what's next? We'll talk later on details but I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him.
November 20 another jabI think it has to be in my zodiac , or I could almost hear Lillian Too saying.. "She will experience a strong affinity to needles in the year of Dog-2006". I got another jab in my ass over the weekend. This time - high temperature with some severe food poisoning.
Had to go on mc today but am feeling much better after an entire weekend of recuperation with Mike hanging around. His presence is always so heart felt though most of the time, he's actually with the pc. hehe
What bugs me tremendously starting beginning of last week and even more so today is the stress level at work. Where do you draw the line between what's a reasonable amount of load versus what's needed to be done? You don't. That's what led me to the jab.
I used to know someone who was 101% dedicated to his career and I'd say the role model of what a parent should be. He collapsed in his office just a year ago - stroke. Age - 34. Company probably paid off a certain sum of disability insurance and today, nobody remembers him as the man who dedicated his life to his job, but simply as the man who had a stroke and was immediately replaced with another chap.
Corporations have no emotions.
This does not mean that we should not devote the rightful amount of attention and commitment to our employers, afterall, that's how we pay our bills. But this does mean that we stop at a certain point to reflect and re-evaluate our priorities once in a while. Similarly to my earlier hospital saga, last weekend was again a reminder. I'm only 32.
Where do I draw the line, and when do I cut it off?
October 31 new day, new light - Tuesday Oct 31, 2006Tuesday - I have never hated nor loved Tuesdays very much. Seemingly a very neutral day , and being the 2nd day of the week, 2nd child in the family, and "2" being an even number, I really have no complains about this day of the week.
Will be starting off the day with a cup of hot miso, and whatever happens today, I have yet to plan out. All I know is there are heaps of reports awaiting my sign off, people to promote, tasks to assign, and emails to draft. Sounding monotonous already but its back into the routine cycle.
Gym will be unfrozen by tomorrow - hurray! and perhaps getting back into equestrian isn't such a bad idea. however waking up at 6:30am for a lesson is! so, that's still to be thought out.
Christmas is coming - and hmm more shopping to do. Must say that 2006 has been anything but boring. October 25 Lost passport, Quake in Hawaii, ended up in Pangkor LautI think the topic sums up the past 2 weeks' events pretty well.
Mike's passport & a chunk of cash were stolen and so we cancelled our US trip just 2 days before our departure. Then as a backup plan since we've already got some leaves to burn, we headed over to Pangkor Laut for 5 days for some r&r.
Here's what happened. Mike went over to the bank on Thursday (just 2 days before we were supposed to depart for US) to withdraw some serious cash for our US trip. He had to bring his passport along for verification (don't ask.. our friend lost his ic just a few weeks ago). Anyways, to make a long story short, shortly after he drove off, he realized there was a flat tyre, and stopped by the roadside to change his tyre. Miraculously, the Litrak highway support came by in less than 1 minute on a motorbike, and then the 2nd Litrak person came over in his tow truck in just less than 3 minutes. You may think what good luck eh - right after they 'changed' the tyres, Mike drove off realizing only slightly later, that his dough & passport were gone. He left it inside the car - and those guys supposedly claimed some of the items from the tyres could not fit in the boot. I would assume in the midst of the tyre changing chaos, the goodies were conveniently taken though there are no eye witnesses. Mind you, this is just by the LDP highway SS2, so its unlikely that you have a pedestrian just walking along the sides of the road then. Anyways, so we made a police report, and the devastation was undescribable. We were both emotionally drained as we have built up so much excitement towards the trip - waiting almost a year for this break.
No point crying over spilt milk - so we proceeded to make bookings at Pangkor Laut. So we headed off to our local island holiday the following Monday 16/10/06. Ironically, while waiting for our ferry to head over to the island, my boss smsed me that Hawaii was struck by a 6.6 earthquake and was in the 'state of emergency'. Electricity lines were cut, and high rise buildings were evacuated. That would have been our 2nd day in Hawaii if we had gone over. Hmm that was strange - God must really love us. Imagine the disappointment if we had been there - still paying for hotels, and car rental with no where to go! Airport was closed for a few days - chances are , we would have had to extend our stay in Hawaii with nothing to do. For the amount we 'saved' by not going for the US trip, the Pangkor trip was rather lovely - we relaxed in the sea chalets, and hill chalets over a period of 5 days. Dining was convenient - too convenient. Now I feel fat.
Anyways, check out the photos.... now i'm bored. I need to get back to work.
